What is cosmetic acupuncture?

Also known as Facial rejuvenation acupuncture, cosmetic acupuncture is a safe, painless, non-surgical, and drug-free way to reduce the signs of aging. This holistic anti-aging treatment not only enhances your appearance but also promotes overall well-being by restoring balance to the whole body— helping you feel as youthful as you look.

Unlike injection procedures like Botox, facial acupuncture works with the body’s natural resources to stimulate collagen and elastin production, leading to a more natural and sustainable rejuvenation. It helps tighten and plump the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles while improving complexion and skin elasticity.

As an extension of traditional acupuncture, facial acupuncture follows many of the same principles with a whole-body approach. The key differences lie in the specialized techniques and the use of much finer needles, designed to enhance skin vitality while maintaining comfort.

How Cosmetic Acupuncture Works

Stimulates Collagen Production

By creating microtraumas in the skin with fine needles.

Reduces Inflammation & Puffiness

By helping move lymph and excess fluid from around the jawline, cheeks, and undereye.

Reduces Jaw Tension

Helps release jaw tension, easing TMJ dysfunction symptoms and reducing the appearance of a ‘clenched jaw’

Increases Blood Circulation

Improved blood flow to the face, delivering more oxygen and nutrients for the skin to repair itself.

Brighter Complexion

Increased blood circulation helps give you a brighter, healthier completion.

Improved Skin Texture

Increased collagen, improved circulation, and reduced inflammation lead to an overall improvement in skin texture.

What to Expect

Our session together starts by reviewing your history and concerns and mapping out a plan. You’ll head to the table where we will begin placing acupuncture needs in the body and face. After needles are placed, the red light therapy will be placed above the face and neck while you rest for about 15 minutes. After, needles are removed and we will do facial cupping and gua sha to move lymph. This whole appointment takes between 60-80 minutes. You may choose to add-on additional services such as nanoneedling at this visit.

Holistic Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses tiny, sterilized needles to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin. This stimulates the skin’s natural healing process, leading to increased collagen and elastin production - both key components for youthful, radiant skin. If you’re looking to:

  • Improve skin texture & tone

  • Reduce the appearance of acne scars

  • Minimize pore size

  • Reduce fine lines & wrinkles

  • Enhance product absorption

  • Treat hyperpigmentation & sun damage

Then microneedling may just be the treatment for you.

What makes this treatment holistic? We still perform full body acupuncture during this treatment to focus on root cause of skin issues.

Microneedling is not just for the face. We can add-on areas such as the neck or chest if these are regions of concern for you!

Edwardsville Nanoneedling

Nanoneedling

Nanoneedling differs from microneedling as it does not penetrate the dermis and focuses on the top layer of the skin. There is no numbing required for this treatment, and virtually no downtime.  Nanoneedling is very beneficial between treatments to continue with skin resurfacing and improved texture. It increases cellular turnover and collagen production as well as product absorption (by 97%!). The microscopic tips target the entire face and are safe to use around the eyes and directly on the lips, unlike microneedling. This treatment can be done on its own or added to treatments like microneedling and facial acupuncture!

Questions You May Have:

  • The frequency of facial acupuncture treatments depends on individual needs and goals. While some individuals may benefit from weekly sessions initially, others may find monthly maintenance treatments sufficient for optimal results. A typical initial treatment plan starts with 5-10 treatments, depending on individual needs.

For microneedling, a series of three is recommended to start. These are spaced out every 4-6 weeks.

  • The possible side effects of facial acupuncture are minimal. Some individuals may experience slight bruising or skin reactions, but these are temporary and resolve on their own. It is important to follow proper aftercare instructions and consult with a healthcare professional if you are on blood thinners or have specific health issues.

  • Wearing loose and comfortable clothing is recommended. This allows easy access to the skin where needed without restricting movement or circulation. Avoid wearing tight clothes and excessive jewelry to ensure a relaxing and effective session. We suggest patients to come in with a clean face, however, we understand that many people are coming from work, so we have cleansers at the clinic to remove your make up before starting treatment.

  • Facial acupuncture can be beneficial for individuals with acne and other skin conditions. The treatment promotes the body's natural healing process and helps to reduce inflammation. It can also support the efficacy of other skincare treatments, such as topical products or medications, in addressing specific skin concerns.

  • Not at all! The needles used in the face are as little as 0.12 of a millimetre – that’s finer than half of your hair strand.

The majority of patients do not feel a thing, however it is not unusual to feel a tiny and very quick prick as the needle is first inserted into your skin. This will disappear in a split second and the rest of the treatment is virtually painless and discomfort-free. Many patients actually comment on how relaxing it is.

  • Facial Acupuncture can still be performed in areas that have Botox by avoiding the muscle layer and working on a more superficial skin layer. Facial acupuncture can still target other areas of the face that are free from Botox for eg: Some of our patients have Botox around their eyes, and still have Cosmetic Acupuncture in the forehead and around the mouth. We recommend waiting 2 weeks post botox prior to facial acupuncture.
